North Korea fires more rockets

One day after its nuclear test drew angry and widespread condemnation, North Korea continued to defy the international community on Tuesday by test-firing two more short range-missiles, a South Korean government official said. The missile firings came just hours after South Korea said it would join an American-led operation to stop the global trafficking in weapons of mass destruction, an action the North has previously said it would consider a declaration of war.

The developments sharpened the confrontation between North Korea and much of the international community including the US as the United Nations Security Council vowed to craft a resolution that could impose further sanctions on the increasingly isolated North. South Korean news agency Yonhap said the missiles had a range of 80 miles, and were launched from a base on the central eastern coast into the sea opposite Japan.

Brushing aside the latest international condemnation, Pyongyang said the US was the aggressive one, its long held argument to justify having a nuclear arsenal. “The US would be well advised to halt at once its dangerous military moves against North Korea if it wants to escape the lot of a tiger moth, bearing in mind that any attempt to makeĀ  a pre-emptive attack on us is little short of inviting a disaster itself,” a Pyongyang statement said.

Fascinating stuff going on here. North Korea is always saber-rattling. I guess Kim Jung-Il is simply crazy. What sane person could think that something good could result from this kind of insecurity?
